However this would not be the last word on the shots fired in the shooting of john f Kennedy, jfk:

The new evidence would not come from witnesses, films or photos, it would come In the form of an audio recording.

During the motorcade the Dallas Police had a stuck open microphone on one of their two channels and this would continue before, during and after the shooting.

In 1976 one researcher ( Jack white ) would wonder if perhaps the sounds of the gunfire was on the dictabelt that was recording the channels back at the Dallas Police Deportment.

In 1978 the Hose Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) would secure the dictabelt And have it analyzed.

The committee contracted with Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. (BBN) of Cambridge, Mass., to perform the analysis.

As you might imagine this would be a vary complex and controversial process.

I will try to present some of the major facts of this scientific investigation:

First you have this tape that is totally inaudible ( noisy ) with all types erratic sounds.

The sounds where converted into digitized wave forms. And subjected to sophisticated Filtering. And it was determined that there where indeed significant sound impulses Or spikes
 ( Six sequences of impulses that could have been caused by a noise such as gunfire. )

And they would go as far as filtering out the sounds of the repeated firings of the pistons on the motorcycle engine.

After the impulses where isolated they had an acoustical fingerprint, the initial shot and it's echo's, which would come from the surrounding environment.

Now there would have to be a way to verify the fact that these impulses where in-fact gunshots that came from Daley plaza. In order to do this the shooting would have to be restaged.

So microphones where placed along the motorcade rote and gunmen where placed In the six floor of the TSBD and behind the picked fence on the grassy knoll.

36 microphones where placed 18 feet apart.

In the end not only did the shots conducted in 1978 match those from 1963 it was also determined that there where four shots not three.

AND THAT THE THIRD SHOT HAD COME FROM THE GRASSY KNOLL.

Now ( as My favorite chef would say ) you don't need to be a rocket scientist to understand that;
(  if the sound waves (ECHO PATTERNS) of the shots fired in 1978 matched the sound waves (ECHO PATTERNS) of the shots on the 1963 dictabelt the chances that they could be anything else would be Infinitesimal or minute. ) Like a finger print...

The HSCA certainly understood this and would be one major factor that forced them to conclude that:

"PRESIDENT KENNEDY WAS PROBABLY KILLED AS A RESULT OF A CONSPIRACY. "

( Also; the sound waves were picked up on microphones which tended to match the speed of the motorcade. )
